Good Eats

Local favorites, travel grub, and food worth stopping for.

Good food keeps the adventure on track. I am always looking for a no-nonsense meal. My idea of a no-nonsense meal is not only delicious, but it is reasonably priced, and served in good portions. Everything on this list fits that description, unless otherwise noted.

How We Rate Our Good Eats

Every food stop gets judged on five categories, each scored from 0 to 10. We look at more than whether the food tastes good—we want to know if the whole meal was worth the stop.

  • Price / Value: Was the meal worth what we paid? We consider the price compared with the amount and quality of food, especially alongside similar restaurants.
  • Meal Satisfaction: Did the meal leave us happy and full? This covers portion sizes, how filling the food was, and whether the meal felt like enough.
  • Food Quality: How good was the food itself? We judge flavor, freshness, preparation, and whether what we ordered lived up to expectations.
  • Service: How was the experience with the staff? We consider friendliness, helpfulness, order accuracy, and how smoothly and promptly things went.
  • Overall Impression: Our gut-feeling score. Taking the full experience into account, would we go back or recommend this place to someone else?

How the final score works: Each category is worth 10 points, for a total of 50 possible points. We add the five scores and convert the total to a percentage. For example, 40/50 equals 80%. Each category counts equally.

When multiple people complete all five ratings, we may also show a group average so you can see more than one perspective. These are our firsthand opinions, not paid rankings.
