The Simple Suitcase

From weekends away to bucket list days

We stopped at Big Chicken in Las Vegas with family and decided to do something a little different for this Good Eats review: four of us rated our experience separately across the same five categories. The food scored well, but the service ratings told a very different story.

The 5-Finger Combo: The Better Value

I ordered the 5-Finger Combo, and it was filling and delicious. The price felt about average for this kind of meal, but I was satisfied with how much food I got.

Others in our group ordered chicken sandwiches and weren’t quite full afterward. Comparing our meals, I thought the 5-Finger Combo was a much better value than the sandwiches.

The combo included two dipping sauces. They were good, but with five chicken fingers I could’ve used one more. The ranch was amazing.

Our 5-Finger Combo was filling and a better value than the sandwiches our group ordered.

The Cheese Curds: So Good, but Such a Small Portion

The cheese curds were so, so, so good—easily one of the highlights of the meal. The downside was the size: $6 for a really small serving felt steep. I loved the taste, but this was the biggest portion-versus-price disappointment for me.

The cheese curds tasted amazing, but the $6 serving was small.

The Mac and Cheese

We also tried the mac and cheese, and it was good. The chicken combo and cheese curds stood out more to me, but I enjoyed this side too.

What About Service?

Service was the one category where our entire group gave low scores. All four of us rated it 4/10 or below, for an average of just 2.5/10. That pulled our final rating down considerably. The food was a much stronger part of our visit than the service.

Good Eats Ratings: Four Different Opinions

For this visit, Kennedy, Jackson, McKinley, and Hampton each scored five categories out of 10. We averaged all four sets of ratings so the final score reflects more than one person’s opinion.

Service2.5/10

Jackson32.7/50
McKinley32/50
Hampton35/50

Final Group Good Eats Score: 33.3/50 (66.6%). All five categories count equally, and each person’s scores have equal weight. Group category averages are rounded for display.

Would We Go Back?

The food itself made a good impression: my 5-Finger Combo was filling, the ranch was fantastic, the mac and cheese was good, and those cheese curds were seriously delicious. But I’d skip expecting the chicken sandwiches to be as filling as the combo, and I’d be prepared for a small cheese-curd portion at $6.

The service scores were hard to ignore, though. Our verdict: good fried chicken and sides, better value in the 5-Finger Combo than the sandwiches, and service that brought down an otherwise much stronger food review.
